Suru Valley: Unforeseen, Catastrophic, deadly: Flash flood on 27 July 2021. Colossal quantities of unprecedented rain water swept through the Tachey thang village of Suru Valley.
Following a thunderstorm, lightening and torrential rain lasting several hours, part of the village in tachey thang Khows were completely inundated. This happened just a day before "World Nature Conservation day" and continues till today.
The village is badly hit as floodwater from nearby channel overflowed and submerged several houses, agricultural fields, livestocks and other domestic properties and leaves hundreds of people homeless. As the area is already prone to flash flood. This flash flood occured followed by a scorching heat wave for several days while temperature reached 35°C which is going to be a record-breaking in the valley though.
The channel which is responsible for flash flood couldn't handle enough rainwater streaming down from the surrounding hills turned the former small stream into river like, along with part of village either. In addition, according to the eyewitnesses locals, a huge rock was stuck in the channel (originates from Zozo lake and drains into Suru river) somewhere in the middle of course leads to accumulate piles of debris which deviated the course of flash flood towards village tachey thang, resulted in huge unexpected loss.
Further, it is pertinent to mention here that neither any local media nor any of the govt officials and public representatives from district headquarter reached on the spot to address and register the grievances of the aggrieved people despite of being a couple of days passed, "siad locals".
